The Leadership Spotlight Shines On: Ilona Nesterova

1. Where were you born and raised; current city; family hobbies; past business highlights.
I was born and raised in Ukraine and now live in South Florida. I’m a wife, a mother of two, and a business owner. I hold a law degree and earlier in my career worked in law enforcement in Ukraine, which gave me a strong foundation in structure, discipline, and responsibility. That experience helped shape my work ethic, but it also made me very aware that I did not want to spend my life in a rigid 9–to–5 system.

Before joining the travel industry, I was working in real estate, where I learned sales, negotiation, long-term strategy, and how to work directly with clients at a high level. Those skills translated naturally into building my own business. Today, I grow my travel business alongside real estate, with a focus on leadership, systems, and long-term vision. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling with my family, personal development, tennis, and creating meaningful experiences together in cruises.

2. How have you grown or personally developed since joining PlanNet?
PlanNet helped me transition from transactional success to true leadership. Coming from a modeling career and fashion background, I learned how to think like an entrepreneur, trust systems, and develop people — not just results. I’ve grown in patience, emotional intelligence, and strategic thinking. I’ve been very emotion driven and impatient before so my husband jokes it took me 9 months to grow in the tummy but he thinks I walked out the same day I was made.

Most importantly, I’ve learned how to build something sustainable that doesn’t depend on constant personal effort. I’ve learned to hear people and what they need instead of talking.

3. What drives you; what motivates you?
I’m driven by freedom with purpose. Having experienced both traditional structure and commission-based industries, I’m motivated to build something that creates options — for my family and for others who feel limited by conventional career paths. I want to see more leaders shine within my organization, because their growth means stability, confidence, and freedom for many families, not just my own.

Success of people that once said yes to me drives me the most.

4. Who would you consider a role model and why?
I respect leaders who lead with integrity, consistency, and humility — those who create space for others to rise.

Those who see something big in you before you see it in yourself, like my mentor, Mr Hampton.

I also deeply value my husband, who is my biggest supporter and true partner. His support, belief, and shared vision have been essential to my growth and ability to lead with confidence.

5. The three words that describe me best are:
Persevering, Vision-driven, Passionate.

6. If you had some sound advice to give to anyone what would‌ it be?
Understand the system you’re building your life in. Don’t invent another wheel. Make the first million with the existing system, then go make another million with yours.

If it doesn’t align with the future you want, have the courage to create a different path. Long-term success comes from consistency, patience, and surrounding yourself with the right people.

7. What does your life look like five years from now?
Five years from now, I see a life centered around family, partnership, and impact. I see myself building alongside my husband — my biggest supporter and partner — with time to travel together, support our children’s dreams, and live intentionally. I see a strong organization led by confident leaders, a business that runs with systems and heart, and the ability to give back in meaningful ways. Above all, I see a life built by choice, not obligation.
